The name M.B Campbell and the address of 124 Lindsay Ave in Toronto is seen on the inside lid of a small copper box which was filled with mementoes and sealed at Maple Leaf Gardens on September 21, 1931. The contents of the time capsule was made public in Toronto on Thursday, January 26, 2012.
Burgoyne’s curiosity was piqued by Ryerson president Sheldon Levy’s public appeal, at the time capsule’s unveiling last week, for help in solving the mystery. After an initial flurry of research, including a search of the Star’s online archives, she contacted Breuls-Dorang through a genealogy grapevine.
Her suspicion that Breuls-Dorang was related to the mystery man who etched his name into the time capsule turned out to be true.
“I’m basically the family historian,” said Breuls-Dorang, a self-employed bookkeeper.
“Millard,” it seems, was also the middle name of his maternal grandfather, Timothy Millard Breuls, of the hamlet of Ringwood, near Stouffville.
“Breuls” was the maiden name of his mother, Florence Rosetta Breuls, whose family emigrated from Germany, first to England and then to Ringwood in 1826.
